The Prior Lake City Council proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month during its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14. This marks the fifteenth consecutive year the city has officially recognized victims, survivors, and advocates working to end domestic violence.
“In an average year we have over 2,000 calls to our crisis line,” said Kim Lohse, Community Outreach Manager Southern Valley Alliance. “We have seen an increase in demand for our services, but we are also seeing funding cuts so this recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month is appreciated, and we ask that community members of Prior Lake support us by following us on social media and learn more at our website.”
For more information, or to get involved, residents are encouraged to visit svamn.org. As part of the city’s recognition, the lights on County Road 21 through downtown Prior Lake will glow purple throughout October as a visual reminder to raise awareness and support victims.
“We stand with survivors and the organizations doing the hard work every day to end domestic violence,” said Kirt Briggs, Prior Lake Mayor. “I encourage all citizens to actively engage in the work and events sponsored by Southern Valley Alliance and other organizations working toward the elimination of domestic violence.”
Southern Valley Alliance serves as the only resource for domestic abuse in Scott and Carver counties.
