The next time you visit Lakefront Park, look for the new sculpture just south of the bandshell (watch video). The art installation, titled Friend of Youth, reflects the motto of the Prior Lake Optimist Club, which commissioned the project through a partnership with the Prior Lake Arts and Culture Committee.

Constructed from Corten steel and concrete, Friend of Youth depicts positive and joyful interactions among children and adults, reflecting the spirit of community. The sculpture serves as a tribute to the importance of supporting and encouraging young people, a mission the Optimist Club has embraced since 1978. 

The artwork was made possible through the vision and generosity of Dr. Les Sonnabend and artists James and Ryan Pedersen. 

A formal dedication and presentation ceremony will be announced once the commemorative plaque has been completed and is ready for installation.
