About the Program
The Memorial Bench Program allows friends and family to honor the memory of a loved one with a park bench in one of Prior Lake’s beautiful parks.
Dedicating a park bench provides a lasting remembrance in honor of a loved one and enhances the meaning of a bench for park visitors. The gift is also a valuable contribution to the community’s park system.
People of all ages visit Prior Lake’s system of trails, athletic fields, facilities, and playgrounds every day, and the city parks are host to numerous events, wedding receptions and other community gatherings. Your generous gift will be recognized and appreciated by visitors for decades to come.
Can I choose the location?
Yes! The City has designated areas where benches can be installed within our parks and trails system. View the Memorial Bench Map to see which benches are available (indicated by blue dots on the map). You can switch between 'Available Options' and 'Donations' to see examples of existing benches and plaques that have been donated.
How does the program work?
- The City of Prior Lake will install the bench onto a suitable surface within the desired park.
- If the desired location does not currently have a suitable surface for mounting, the city may consider installing a concrete pad for an additional fee.
- The engraved plaque is attached to the bench’s backrest. The 4”x6” bronze plaque is limited to 6 lines with up to 24 characters per line.
- The City will maintain the bench for a minimum of 10 years. If current contact information is available, the donor may be given the opportunity to renew the memorial.
What is the cost?
The total cost is $2,500 ($2,200 for the bench and $300 for the bronze plaque).
If the bench is requested in a new location, there is an additional fee of $1,000 for a concrete pad to be installed.
