The Prior Lake Community Academy is a free program that meets every Tuesday evening from
5-7 p.m. from April 7-May 12, 2026, to help residents learn more about city operations and how
local government works. public worksEvery week a different city
department will be highlighted, including guest
speakers, facility tours, and the opportunity to engage
directly with department staff. The Academy caps off
with a 'graduation' ceremony at a City Council meeting.

Applications are accepted through Friday, March 13.

Participants must be at least 16 years old and either
live or work in Prior Lake. A minimum of 10 participants is required, and all participants are
expected to attend every session. 
                                                                                    

April 7 – General Government
Speakers: Jason Wedel, City Manager and Nicole Klekner, Finance Director

April 14 – Fire Department (including tour of Fire Station 1)
Speaker: Rick Steinhaus, Fire Chief

April 21 – Parks & Recreation
Speaker: Steve Hart, Parks & Recreation Manager

April 28 – Police Department (including tour for Police Station)
Speaker: Liam Dugan, Police Chief

May 5 – Public Works & Engineering
Speaker: Nick Monserud, Public Works Director/City Engineer

May 12 – Community Development
Speaker: Casey McCabe, Community Development Director
