Building Inspections

The Building Inspections Division is delegated to administer the State Building Code. Building Division staff facilitate permits for all new and existing properties including plan review, permit issuance, inspections and project approvals. The purpose of this Division is to ensure that public safety and health standards related to building construction are maintained for the general welfare of the community. 


The City of Prior Lake encourages the submittal of permit applications and supporting materials electronically via the BS&A system.

Not registered? Click here and follow the registration process. Your account will be active once you click the link the email you receive from BS&A. Once an account has been created it can be linked to view your permit history and apply for permits only by following these five (5) steps:

  1. Email the Building Department at permits@PriorLakeMN.gov and request your businesses BS&A  PIN. Please provide your business name, address, phone number and license information in the email.
  2. While logged into your BS&A account, click on the "Municipalities" button found in the right hand  corner of your screen.
  3. Search for and click on City of Prior Lake.
  4. In the tree on the left side of your screen, under the Building Department heading, click on "View my  Activity".
  5. Click on the yellow "I have a pin" link and enter your PIN #. This PIN will link your BS&A account with your City of Prior Lake contractor account.

PERMIT EXTENSION REQUEST

Pursuant to MN Rules 1300.0120 subp.10 and subp.11 permits expire when no activity has occurred for more than 180 days. The permit holder is responsible for ensuring all inspections are completed and approved, failure to do so is a violation of the MN State Building Code. Permits may be extended prior to expiration by completing the Permit Extension Request and submitting the completed document to permits@PriorLakeMN.gov.
